Sony SRS-XB40 Portable Wireless Bluetooth Speaker Review

One of best brands of electronics, Sony has always amazed their customers with their products.

There’s no doubt that you would have used at least one Sony device in your life, no matter whatever it was. My first Sony device was their MP3 Player.

Do let us know in the comments what your first device from Sony was 😉

The Sony SRS-XB40 is a portable Bluetooth speaker that has a lot to offer you at a very decent price.

It is kind of bigger in reality than it looks in the images. In Sony SRS-XB40, XB stands for “extra bass”.

It means the speakers will provide you something extraordinary with its bass. Although Sony released their SRS-XB41, the XB40 has its own value.

With the release of XB41, the price dropped to XB40. It had created a lot of hype among customers. So we thought why shouldn’t we review them?

Features and Specifications/Specs

First Impressions:

The SRS-XB40 Portable Wireless Bluetooth Speaker is totally made of matte plastic.

The body is kind of fingerprint magnet, and I don’t like it much. The body is slippery but has a good grip on sides.

If you see on the front, we have got a grill. It lets you see through the inner drivers of the speaker.

But what’s really cool to notice are the lights. These lights change up with the beats. This speaker could make you a star of the part with special light effects :”)

It is IPX5 certified water-proof.  You can use the speakers even while raining. Also, you can use them in your bathroom while taking a bath.

Wireless Connectivity:

The SRS-XB40 has Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity. It can connect to the range of about 30 feet.

And I found the connection to be pretty strong within this range. Apart from Bluetooth, it has NFC built-in.

Connect your phone with one touch pairing using NFC and start the music according to the mood. No NFC on your phone? Not a problem at all. Instead, try connecting via Bluetooth and you are good to go.

Wired connectivity:

In case you faced any problem while connecting your device. You have the option to connect your device via the 3.5 mm output jack. So whether you use an android phone or an iPhone, you have all the connectivity options.

Multi-colored lights:

It comes with pre-initiated multi-colored lighting. They get changed and blink according to the beats.

This gives a pretty amazing feel while listening to your favorite tracks.

Battery life:

They provide you with an excellent battery life of around 24 hours. Play music throughout your day and night, still you will end up with remaining battery.

It has the voice feedback functionality that lets you know about the remaining percentage of the battery.

In case you want something lightweight and the one you can easily carry anywhere, this might not be the best option for you.

The weight of this speaker is around 1.5 kg. But the bigger size does not mean it has demerits.

Being big in size, the company has initiated an extra driver at its back. And this extra driver is responsible for the extra bass.

So we can say that putting an extra bass was the reason to increase its size.

Control with Song Pal and Fiestable:

These two apps can enhance your experience with these speakers. You can simply download them from Google Play Store or App Store.

The Song Pal lets you take control over the bass, volume, music, lights and more.

Whereas, the Fiestable can tweak the playback, volume, lights, add DJ effects and do much more.

Increase the quality of Clear Audio Plus:

You can easily increase the quality and clarity of the speakers. Being unique to Sony, the Clear Audio+ can adjust the sound quality by tweaking with some settings on its own.

It has the ability to deliver a high quality and consistent sound quality, whether you are having fun with music, games or movies.

Add an extra speaker to enhance your experience:

You can always add another SRS-XB40 and connect it wirelessly to have an excellent output.

This will widen the range of sound quality.

Not fit for all parties:

As I have mentioned that you can be the star of any party with this. It is not true for all.

You can’t manage a crowded party. But you can easily get a great experience at house parties, pool parties or beach parties. Look at below video for more information.

Overall, the speaker is pretty good, I liked it. But now that the new one is out, you can find this speaker for well under $200, and to me, it’s definitely worth the money.

Although the majority of its specifications are great and it is offered by one of the best brands, Sony.

So I am sure that you will like this one. So what have you decided to do? Will you this one at a discounted price? Or will you get the Sony SRS XB41? Do let us know in the comment section below.
